Lead Us From the Unreal To the Real,
Lead Us From Darkness To Light,
Lead Us From Death To Immortality,
Om, Peace Peace Peace.

– Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.3.28.

The Brihadaranyaka is considered one of the oldest Upanishads. This verse will be familiar to many people and is often chanted during religious rituals, It has even been used in popular movies such as the matrix. The universality of the shloka/prayer is immediately apparent, and one that people of all backgrounds and religious faith can find beneficial. The Shanti Mantra ends with Om Shanti, Shanti,
Shanti. The reason for this is grounded in Sankhya philosophy. The first is a call for the end of suffering from the external world, threats from animals, natural disasters, etc. The second is a call for the end of suffering from destiny, deities, spirits etc. The third is for the end of suffering on a personal level, health, disease, depression, anxiety, control of the mind etc.

May there be peace, peace, peace.
